SB 1644 — Munoz Student Allergy Framework for Emergencies (SAFE) Act

• Officially cited as the "Munoz Student Allergy Framework for Emergencies (SAFE) Act," amending Florida's K-12 student and parent rights statute (s. 1002.20, F.S.)
• Requires each district school board to develop and implement a policy for the use of epinephrine auto-injectors in emergency situations, in compliance with State Board of Education and Department of Health rules
• Mandates the policy include procedures for acquiring and securely storing emergency epinephrine auto-injectors on public school premises, a physician-developed training protocol for school nurses and volunteer personnel to identify anaphylaxis and administer epinephrine, and a process for designating school personnel to receive initial and annual training
• Allows public schools to purchase epinephrine auto-injectors from wholesale distributors or obtain them at fair-market, free, or reduced prices for use during anaphylactic reactions
• Effective date is July 1, 2024
