Florida Senate Resolution 1810 recognizes and commends H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute for its contributions to cancer prevention, treatment, and research, as well as its vision to transform cancer care through science, clinical care, and partnerships.

Created by the Florida Legislature in 1981 and opened in 1986 in Tampa, Moffitt earned National Cancer Institute (NCI) Comprehensive Cancer Center designation in 2001 and expanded with the opening of Moffitt McKinley Hospital in 2023.

Moffitt annually provides care to nearly 86,000 patients from all 67 Florida counties, all 50 states, and 133 countries, and trains more than 2,800 oncology professionals each year.

Employment has grown from 400 to more than 9,000 over 36 years, generating an economic impact of nearly $2.5 billion in Florida.

Moffitt researchers have contributed to groundbreaking developments including TIL therapy, a curative treatment for lymphoma, advances in the genetic basis of cancer risk, and mathematical models for adaptive therapy to reduce cancer recurrence.
