SB 918 – Employment of Minors

• Removes all work-hour restrictions for minors aged 16 and 17, including the current prohibitions on working before 6:30 a.m., after 11 p.m. on school nights, more than 8 hours on school nights, and more than 30 hours during school weeks
• Eliminates the requirement that 16- and 17-year-olds not enrolled in career education programs be prohibited from working during school hours on school days
• Removes the mandatory 30-minute meal break for 16- and 17-year-olds working 8 or more hours in a day, while retaining the meal break requirement for minors 15 and younger
• Narrows existing exemptions (e.g., high school graduates, home education students, virtual instruction enrollees) to apply only to minors aged 14 and 15, since restrictions on 16- and 17-year-olds are being eliminated entirely
• Deletes the Department of Business and Professional Regulation's authority to grant waivers of work-hour restrictions, and the bill takes effect July 1, 2025
