UTVs (vehicles under 70 inches wide with side-by-side seating, steering wheel, and required safety equipment) may operate during all hours on two-lane county roads and municipal streets with posted speed limits under 55 mph, if designated by the local government

Operation on State Highway System roads is permitted only to cross at approximately 90-degree angles where quick, safe crossings can be made; the Department of Transportation may prohibit UTV use on any road for safety reasons

Operators must possess a valid driver license or learner's permit with direct supervision from a licensed driver in the adjacent front passenger seat

UTV owners must comply with vehicle insurance requirements, obtain proper license plates from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, maintain registration certificates, and provide proof of ownership upon request

Violations constitute noncriminal traffic infractions punishable as nonmoving violations; counties and municipalities may enact more restrictive ordinances or prohibit UTV operation entirely for safety reasons; effective date January 1, 2027
