Golf carts may cross streets or highways at signalized intersections if the intersection is wholly within a single local government's boundaries, the local government has designated golf cart operation on roads on both sides of the intersection, and the local government has approved and posted signs authorizing the crossing

Local governments may enact ordinances allowing golf cart operation on sidewalks adjacent to municipal streets, county roads, or state highways if they determine safe shared use is possible, consult with the Department of Transportation, limit speed to 15 mph, and require sidewalks adjacent to state highways to be at least 8 feet wide

Violations are noncriminal traffic infractions punishable as moving violations for operational infractions or nonmoving violations for equipment-related infractions under Chapter 318
