Autopsy reports for infants and children who die suddenly and unexpectedly, or individuals of any age whose death is suspected to be caused by Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), are made confidential and exempt from public records requirements

Surviving parents and adult siblings of the deceased may view and copy the autopsy report

The Department of Health may access reports for epidemiological research and tracking duties, and must maintain their confidential status

Deidentified information and aggregate data may be released to national research institutions for epidemiological research purposes

The exemption is subject to the Open Government Sunset Review Act and will automatically repeal on October 2, 2031, unless reenacted by the Legislature
