Revives and readopts "Project Leo," a statewide program previously repealed in 2020, which distributes personal tracking devices to aid search-and-rescue efforts for persons with special needs who are at risk of elopement

Centers for Autism and Related Disabilities established under s. 1004.55 may opt to join the project and will select participants on a first-come, first-served basis, with elopement risk as a minimum criterion

Participating centers provide devices to county sheriff's offices, which distribute them to participants; the program is voluntary and free of charge to participants

Appropriates $1 million total in nonrecurring General Revenue funds for fiscal year 2026-2027: $250,000 each to Centers for Autism and Related Disabilities at University of Florida, Florida Atlantic University, University of South Florida, and Florida State University

Takes effect July 1, 2026
