Health care providers without a contract with Indian River County are limited to 110% of the Medicare allowable rate for medical services to inmates in county detention centers, or 125% if the provider reported a negative operating margin the previous year.

Trauma centers designated by the Department of Health must be compensated at 175% of the Medicare allowable rate for treating inmates who are trauma alert victims, when no contract exists with the county.

Emergency medical transportation providers (including ground ambulances and air ambulances) without a county contract are capped at 110% of the Medicare allowable rate for inmate transport services.

The compensation limits do not apply to medical services provided at hospitals operated by Indian River County itself.

The act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
