A jury trial in August 2023 resulted in a $4.5 million verdict for the father's pain and suffering, with 58% ($2.61 million) attributed to BSO's negligence; BSO admitted negligence at trial

BSO and Broward County have already paid $200,000 combined, exhausting sovereign immunity limits under Florida law

Attorney fees for this claim are capped at 25% of the total amount awarded under this act
