Law enforcement officers actively engaged in official duties (calls for service, investigations, case-related activities, or other police activity) are prohibited from accepting and processing public records requests at that time

Officers themselves determine whether they are engaged in official duty, and must verbally direct requesters to the agency's custodian of records or an online public records portal

Individuals who knowingly and willfully persist in attempting to compel an officer to accept a public records request after being informed the officer is engaged in official duty commit obstruction of a law enforcement officer under s. 843.02

The prohibition does not apply to officers performing duties at an official location of their employing agency
