Existing local regulations must be amended by January 1, 2027 to permit the sale and use of straws/stirrers meeting these environmental certification standards

Legislative findings cite that paper straws often contain harmful PFAS chemicals linked to health risks and that paper straw regulations marginalize residents with disabilities

Exemptions apply to prepackaged drinks sold at commercial establishments and to hospitals, medical care facilities, and senior care facilities

"Renewable" products must be certified under the USDA BioPreferred Program with at least 80% biobased content or TUV Austria OK biobased program with a 4-star rating
