Small private schools (150 or fewer students) may operate in facilities meeting Class A-1, A-3, B, or M occupancy requirements under the Florida Building Code and cannot be subjected to additional state or local health, safety, or welfare codes beyond those occupancy standards

Local fire officials must use NFPA 101A firesafety evaluation systems as low-cost alternatives for evaluating existing private school facilities

Private schools with 150 or fewer students moving into existing assembly, day care, mercantile, or business occupancies must meet existing educational occupancy fire code requirements for sprinklers, detection, alarm, and communications systems

Automatic sprinkler systems are required for Group E fire areas greater than 12,000 square feet and portions of educational buildings below exit discharge level, but are not required where every classroom has at least one exterior exit door at ground level
