Salary Protection Act (HB 1397)

• Prohibits local boards of education from transferring state funds appropriated and allotted for school system personnel salaries to any other purposes
• Bars proration of salaries for school system personnel and prohibits furloughs in the event of budgetary shortfalls
• Amends the Quality Basic Education Act (Title 20, Chapter 2, Article 6, Part 6) by adding new Code Section 20-2-212.6
• Declares legislative intent that state appropriations designated for salary and benefits for school system personnel must be reserved for those specific purposes, in the best interests of students, teachers, and local school systems
