Pratt started as a meter reader for the water department, served 22 years as utilities superintendent, became city administrator in 2002, and was appointed city manager in 2006

Key accomplishments include helping establish the Georgia One-Call system for underground utilities, securing legislation to form the Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia, and negotiating water system interconnections among Floyd County, Bartow County, and the City of Calhoun

Saved taxpayers money by upgrading a gas main and serving in the dual capacity of city manager and utilities director for four years; received the Billy Gail Hersey, Sr., Award in 2008, the highest honor in the Municipal Gas Industry
