GA HB1074

Amends the Act establishing the Long County Board of Commissioners (originally approved March 10, 1988) to redraw the boundaries of the five commissioner districts based on 2010 U.S. Census data.

Divides Long County into five commissioner districts using VTD (Voting Tabulation District) and individual census block designations under the redistricting plan identified as "longccsb-2012."

Current members of the Board of Commissioners continue serving until the regular expiration of their terms and are deemed to represent the newly described districts effective immediately.

Requires the Board of Commissioners, through its legal counsel, to submit the Act for preclearance under Section 5 of the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965 within 45 days of the Governor's approval.

Any part of Long County not included in a described district is assigned to the contiguous district with the least population, and any non-contiguous portion of a district is similarly reassigned.
