SB 34 – Rachel Sackett Act: Extracurricular Activity Access for Charter and Virtual School Students

• Requires public schools in Georgia to allow students enrolled in charter schools, virtual schools, or other traditional public schools to participate in extracurricular activities at a public school within their attendance zone, provided their own school does not offer that activity
• Nonenrolled students must register their intent to participate with the principal of the host public school, and the principal retains final approval authority but may only deny participation with just cause
• If participation is denied, the principal must provide written notice to the student and parent or guardian explaining the reason for the denial
• Nonenrolled students must comply with the same rules, requirements, and code of conduct that apply to enrolled students participating in the same activity
• Directs the State Board of Education to establish rules and regulations for implementation, including procedures for handling situations where interest in an extracurricular activity exceeds the school's capacity
