Georgia high schools receiving Quality Basic Education Act funding would be prohibited from participating in, sponsoring, or providing coaching staff for interscholastic sports events run by any athletic association that bars home study (homeschool) students from competing on public school teams.

Home study students meeting the requirements of Code Section 20-2-690 must be allowed to participate in all interscholastic athletic events and competitions, including playoffs, as members of a public school team.

"Athletic association" is defined as any association of schools or similar organization that organizes, sanctions, schedules, or sets rules for interscholastic athletic events involving Georgia public schools.

The bill amends Part 14 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated by adding new Code Section 20-2-316.2.
