Georgia Senate Resolution 1111 commends Senator Cecil Staton for a decade of service representing the 18th Senate District, which includes Crawford, Monroe, Peach, and Upson counties and portions of Bibb, Houston, and Jones counties

Senator Staton led efforts on voter identification reform, strengthening Georgia's trauma care networks, improving higher education, and served as chief architect of the Macon-Bibb County government consolidation

He held multiple leadership roles including chairman of the Senate Science and Technology Committee, Senate Republican Caucus Majority Whip, and Appropriations sub-committee Chairman on Higher Education

Prior to his Senate service, Staton earned a doctorate from the University of Oxford, served 11 years at Mercer University, and founded multiple businesses including Smyth & Helwys Publishing and Georgia Eagle Media

The resolution congratulates Senator Staton upon his retirement from the Georgia General Assembly and extends the Senate's gratitude for his dedicated public service
