Georgia Senate Resolution 827 recognizes and commends Thomas W. Dortch Jr. for his outstanding public service to Georgia's educational institutions and contributions to the state's economic prosperity

Dortch was born on April 12, 1950, in Toccoa, Georgia, and served as an administrative aide for U.S. Senator Sam Nunn and as the first African American state director of the Georgia Democratic Party

He served as CEO of TWD Inc. and Atlanta Transportation Systems Inc., along with involvement in numerous civic and professional organizations

Dortch received multiple honors, including a Presidential Citation for volunteerism, the Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Award, and the Concerned Black Clergy's Salute to Black Fathers Leadership Award

The Secretary of the Senate is directed to provide an appropriate copy of the resolution to Thomas W. Dortch Jr.
