Greene County officials (Board of Commissioners, Clerk of Superior Court, Probate Judge, Sheriff, Tax Commissioner) and full-time employees with at least 15 years of service may continue participating in the county health insurance plan after leaving office by paying the full cost (both employee and employer premiums), but coverage is limited to the individual only, excluding spousal, dependent, and voluntary insurance coverage.

Officials and full-time employees with at least 25 years of service may continue participating in the county health insurance plan after leaving office with Greene County funding their coverage at the same level as active employees, including access to voluntary insurance products such as dental and vision at the individual's own cost.

Under the 25-year tier, coverage may extend to a qualifying spouse and dependents, but the former officer or employee must pay the full cost of participation for those additional individuals.

Any officer or employee separated from county service due to commission of an illegal act is disqualified from both the 15-year and 25-year health insurance benefits.

Any individual who is or becomes eligible for Medicare, regardless of whether they accept Medicare coverage, is ineligible for benefits under either the 15-year or 25-year provisions.
