Georgia Senate Resolution 527 recognizes and commends Dr. John H. Carter, a native of Thomaston, Georgia, for his contributions to the citizens of the state

Dr. Carter served as a former vice president of AT&T, managed consulting firm Carter & Carter LLC, was an adjunct professor at Strayer University, and worked as a course developer for the Nonprofit University before fully retiring in 2016

Served on boards including the American Red Cross, American Lung Association, Georgia Business Roundtable, and National Minority Purchasing Council, and chaired the higher education committee at Cascade United Methodist Church

Received numerous honors including Morris Brown College Alumnus of the Year, 1992 Alpha Phi Alpha state/regional/national Brother of the Year, Who's Who in America, and BellSouth Services' Presidential Award of Excellence

Authored a book titled Hold My Mule about growing up in the segregated South and rising through corporate America as a young Black man
