Local boards of education must include information about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes whenever they provide health-related information (immunizations, infectious diseases, medications, or other health issues) to parents and guardians of students in grades 6 through 12

Required information includes descriptions of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, associated risk factors and warning signs, screening processes, and the significance of the stages of Type 1 diabetes

Parents or guardians of students displaying diabetes warning signs must be advised to consult the student's primary care provider for potential immediate screening, and following diagnosis, to develop an appropriate treatment plan

The Georgia Department of Education, in cooperation with the Department of Public Health, must develop and make the diabetes information available to local school systems, including posting it on the Department of Education's public website

Amends Code Section 20-2-771.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, replacing a previously reserved section with the new diabetes information requirements
