Georgia House Resolution 1658, sponsored by Representative Marin of the 96th district, formally recognizes and commends Dr. Gerardo L. Sotomayor for his outstanding career accomplishments and commitment to the welfare of Georgia citizens

Dr. Sotomayor relocated to Atlanta in 1984 with his wife, Vivian, and established a private medical practice while contributing to education departments at Northside Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, and serving as a clinical professor at Georgia Baptist Hospital

Founded the nonprofit organization Babies For Life, played an instrumental role in the passage of the Save the Cure Act, and helped create a network of umbilical cord, blood, and placenta collection sites across the Americas and Europe

Published a casebook for surgeons on the use of stem cells obtained from donor placentas and regenerative medicine advances

Directs the Clerk of the House of Representatives to provide an appropriate copy of the resolution to Dr. Sotomayor
