GA SB382

Creates a five-member Board of Elections and Registration for Gilmer County, effective January 1, 2025, consolidating the election powers currently held by the Probate Court judge and the Board of Registrars into a single body appointed by the Board of Commissioners.

Requires the board to include at least one representative each from the two major political parties, with initial members serving staggered terms of two and four years, and all subsequent terms set at four years.

Prohibits any person holding elective public office, or their immediate family members, from serving on the board, and requires all members to be registered voters of Gilmer County.

Requires the county to hire a full-time election supervisor to administer elections, primaries, and voter registration, with the supervisor and all staff classified as county employees with compensation set by the commissioners.

Authorizes the board to conduct municipal elections under contract and requires all board meetings to comply with Georgia's open meetings and public records laws.
