Georgia Senate Resolution 599 honors the life and memory of Dr. Roland A. Pattillo, a gynecologic oncologist and Professor Emeritus at Morehouse School of Medicine, who passed away on May 3, 2023

Dr. Pattillo was born on June 12, 1933, in DeQuincy, Louisiana, earned his medical degree from St. Louis University in 1959, and completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Johns Hopkins University in 1967

He became the first African American faculty member at Marquette University's School of Medicine and later served as Interim Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Morehouse School of Medicine beginning in 1995

He trained under Dr. George Gey, known for culturing the first immortalized cell line from Henrietta Lacks, and was instrumental in creating the Annual HeLa Women's Health Conference at Morehouse School of Medicine in Lacks' honor

The Secretary of the Senate is directed to provide a copy of the resolution to Dr. Pattillo's family, which includes his wife Patricia, seven children, and eight grandchildren
