District attorney salaries will be set by the General Assembly in the General Appropriations Act at no more than 88% of the judicial base salary, with counties authorized to provide optional "locality pay" capped at 10% of state salary or $20,608.05, whichever is less

District attorneys in office on July 1, 2026 may choose to remain under their current compensation structure (including county supplements) or irrevocably opt into the new system; this option must be exercised by January 1, 2034

Most county salary supplements for district attorneys are abolished for those under the new system, though counties may continue providing fringe benefits and supplements for specific additional duties like serving as solicitor for probate or magistrate courts

Local laws and ordinances that tie other officials' salaries to district attorney compensation are suspended as of July 1, 2026 to prevent automatic pay increases, with the suspension lifting for judges on July 1, 2027

Effective date is July 1, 2026, with existing retirement benefits and rights preserved for all district attorneys regardless of which compensation system they choose
