GA HB1190

Authorizes the Governor to select one public school student (grade 11 or 12, age 16+) annually by October 1 to serve as an ex officio advisor to the State Board of Education for up to one school year, following a statewide application process through regional educational service agencies (RESAs)

Student advisors may attend public meetings and hearings but are prohibited from participating in legal matters, individual discipline cases, personnel matters, executive sessions, or accessing confidential information

Encourages local boards of education to appoint student representatives as ex officio advisors, with authority to make non-binding advisory votes on issues affecting students such as codes of conduct, school calendars, and class schedules

Expands the Georgia Teacher of the Year's advisory role from attending a single State Board meeting to attending all meetings and public hearings throughout their term

Both student members and the Teacher of the Year are entitled to reimbursement for actual expenses and transportation costs incurred when attending board meetings and hearings
