GA HB1201

Requires all newly installed or replaced smoke detectors in dwellings to comply with UL 217 (Standard for Smoke Alarms), ninth edition or later, beginning January 1, 2027

Mandates all existing smoke detectors in dwellings meet UL 217 compliance by January 1, 2028

Amends Code Section 25-2-40 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, which governs smoke detector requirements in new dwellings and dwelling units

Allows for future updates to the standard through rule or regulation if later editions of UL 217 are adopted
