Local boards of education and public school governing bodies must consider long-term cost of ownership (including repairs), flexibility for innovation, and anticipated resale/salvage value when purchasing school technology devices valued over $100.

School technology devices include computers, tablets, interactive whiteboards, and associated hardware, software, and technical equipment used for educational purposes.

Beginning in 2027, school systems must submit annual reports to the Department of Education by October 15 detailing total devices in operation, break/fix rates, number of devices requiring repair, and total repair/replacement costs.

The Department of Education must compile and submit these reports to the Governor, legislative leaders, and education committee chairs by December 31 each year starting in 2027.
