GA HB1256

Creates a student loan repayment program through the Georgia Student Finance Authority for public school teachers who graduated from eligible Georgia postsecondary institutions and have taught at least five years in Georgia public schools

Eligible loans must be evidenced by a promissory note for educational costs, not in default, and not already subject to another loan forgiveness or repayment program

Repayment amounts are determined by the authority based on available appropriations, not exceeding total student loan debt, paid in annual installments over a maximum of five years

Recipients must remain Georgia residents and continue teaching in Georgia public schools throughout the agreement term; the authority may terminate agreements for sufficient cause

Program funding is contingent upon appropriations by the General Assembly in annual appropriations acts
