Public school teachers, public school employees, and postsecondary employees (University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia, at least half-time) are entitled to paid leave for bone marrow or organ donation

Bone marrow donation leave is up to 7 days; organ donation leave is up to 30 days, with neither charged against annual or sick leave

For public school teachers and employees, the leave time counts as service for retirement and pension benefit calculations

Employees must provide a statement from the medical practitioner or hospital administrator confirming the donation at least 7 days before the scheduled leave

The leave requirements cannot be waived by strategic waiver school systems, local boards of education, or charter systems
