Georgia Public Safety Training Center must create and maintain an at-risk adult training course for peace officers, emergency medical personnel, and behavioral health co-responders on responding to individuals with Alzheimer's disease or dementia

Required training topics include investigating benefits trafficking, abuse/neglect/exploitation of disabled adults or elders, responding to missing persons reports, and victim-centered trauma-informed interactions

Dementia-specific training must cover recognizing behavioral symptoms, effective communication techniques, alternatives to physical restraints, and protocols for contacting caregivers when individuals are found wandering

Course development requires collaboration between the Georgia Public Safety Training Center and the Forensic Special Initiatives Unit of the Division of Aging Services

Training hours and curriculum must be approved by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council
