Local school systems must notify new employees starting July 1, 2025 whether Social Security taxes will be withheld, and whether they are eligible for Social Security benefits, pension, or retirement plans

Current employees must receive Social Security withholding notices by December 31, 2025, and at least once every five years thereafter

Departing employees must be notified at separation whether Social Security taxes were withheld during any part of their employment

Local boards of education may now pay the costs of health insurance coverage for family members of board members, removing the previous requirement that board members pay all family coverage costs themselves

Effective date: July 1, 2025
