GA HB45

Amends O.C.G.A. § 15-12-100 to expand who may petition for a special grand jury to be impaneled in Georgia superior courts.

Adds "state elected official" to the list of those who can petition the chief judge to request impaneling of a special grand jury, alongside the district attorney and local elected officials.

Previously, only the chief judge (on own motion), district attorney, or elected public officials of the county or municipality could initiate the special grand jury process.

Special grand juries investigate alleged violations of state law or other matters subject to grand jury investigation as provided by law.
