Commissioners must be at least 21 years old and qualified electors of Decatur County

A commissioner's seat becomes vacant if they cease to reside in their district during their term of office

Commissioners are elected by voters residing within their respective districts and must receive both the highest number of votes and a majority of total votes cast for that seat, with run-off elections held if no candidate achieves a majority
