Insurers and third-party administrators are prohibited from requiring prior authorization, preapproval, or precertification for medical tests, procedures, or prescription drugs that are covered under a health benefit plan and prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider.

Pharmacy benefit managers are prohibited from conditioning payment for prescription drug benefits on any form of prior authorization when the drug is covered under the plan and prescribed by a licensed provider.

Physicians are not required to obtain prior authorization from insurers for any healthcare services provided to their patients.

The Georgia state employees' health insurance plan is prohibited from requiring prior authorization for covered medical tests, procedures, or prescription drugs prescribed by licensed providers.

The law applies to all health benefit plans issued, delivered, or renewed in Georgia on or after July 1, 2026.
