GA HB764

Amends the City of Nelson charter to require the city council to order a special election when the mayor or city council member position becomes vacant, with the elected successor serving the balance of the unexpired term

Authorizes the city council or remaining members to appoint someone to temporarily fill the vacancy until the special election is held and a successor is elected and qualified

Requires special elections to be conducted in accordance with Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the O.C.G.A. (Georgia Election Code)

Applies to the City of Nelson, Georgia, whose charter was originally approved April 7, 1992
