Gwinnett County Board of Education compensation increases must take effect January 1 following the next general election after the increase is approved, with three weeks of prior public notice in the county's legal organ newspaper.

Board member compensation is suspended if the board approves an early termination buyout of a superintendent's contract or if buyout payments to former superintendents are still being made.

Compensation suspension continues until the total amount that would have been paid to board members equals the superintendent buyout amount, or until all board members who approved the buyout have left office.

During compensation suspension, board members receive only the state-mandated per diem under O.C.G.A. Code Section 20-2-55.

Individual board members are protected from restrictions on their right to communicate with constituents, the public, or media, except for confidential executive session discussions and information protected under federal or state law.
