Dr. Coleman served more than 25 years in the United States Air Force, including service during the Vietnam War

Held numerous Georgia public service positions including Director of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, Chief Deputy Commissioner at the Department of Juvenile Justice (12+ years), and Chief of Staff to DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis

Served over a decade as commissioner with the DeKalb County Housing Authority and vice-chaired the Georgia Piedmont Technical College Board of Directors

Received multiple honors including DeKalb County History Maker (2017 and 2026), a Lifetime Achievement Award during the Biden administration, and the Nathaniel Mosby Humanitarian Award
