Georgia House Resolution recognizing and commending George "Coach" Gardner for his contributions to football officiating

Founded the Georgia Football Officials Association (GFOA) in 1926 in Atlanta, the oldest and one of the largest high school football official associations in Georgia

Served as SEC football official from 1932-1948, officiating the Sugar Bowl three times and the Rose Bowl once, then served as SEC Supervisor of Officials from 1948-1970

Inducted into the National Football Hall of Fame in 1986 (fourth football official inducted) and became the first official from any sport inducted into the National Federation of High Schools Sports Hall of Fame in 1992

Developed the first football officials' mechanics manual in 1933, earning the title "Father of Football Officiating," with manuals still used by NFL, NCAA, and high school officials
