Dickerson was born in Anderson, South Carolina, graduated from Hart County High School in 1964, and earned his undergraduate degree from Clemson University in 1968, where he served as President of Blue Key National Honor Society and the Student Senate

Distinguished legal career recognized with the Chief Justice Thomas O. Marshall Professionalism Award and the Tradition of Excellence Award from the State Bar of Georgia

Received community honors including the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Northeast Georgia Council of Boy Scouts of America and Outstanding Young Man of Toccoa and Stephens County

Survived by his wife Paula of 56 years, four children, and seven grandchildren; the Clerk of the House is directed to provide a copy of the resolution to his family
