Members of the Employees' Retirement System of Georgia with at least 10 years of membership service may purchase up to 36 months of creditable service for active U.S. military duty performed on or after January 1, 1990

Members must submit proof of qualifying military service and pay the full actuarial cost as determined by the board of trustees, either as a one-time payment within 90 days or through a payment plan

Creditable service is excluded for members not honorably discharged, for reserve duty, for periods already counted as membership service, or for military service used in other state or federal retirement programs (excluding Social Security)

Effective date is July 1, 2026, contingent on concurrent funding as required by the Public Retirement Systems Standards Law; otherwise the Act automatically repeals
