Counties and municipalities may impose enhanced monetary penalties for repeat violations of zoning, building, environmental, and property maintenance codes: $3,000 for second violation, $5,000 for third, $10,000 for fourth, and $15,000 for fifth or subsequent violations

Enhanced penalties do not apply to homestead-exempt properties or owners with fewer than ten single-family or duplex residential properties within the same county

Local governments may require registration of residential rental properties only for owners who own ten or more single-family or duplex properties within the same county

Property owners who attempt to avoid registration requirements by using multiple LLC or corporate names commit a violation of the Fair Business Practices Act

Standard county ordinance violations remain capped at $1,000 fine and/or 60 days confinement, except for the new enhanced penalty provisions for repeat offenders
