Owners of eligible motor vehicles in Georgia may register or renew their vehicle registration for five years instead of annually, beginning July 1, 2027; eligible vehicles exclude commercial motor vehicles and alternative fueled vehicles.

Five-year registration fees are calculated at five times the applicable annual license fee, with prestige and specialty license plates requiring an additional $175.00 fee (compared to $35.00 annually).

Vehicles with five-year registrations must still submit annual emission inspection certifications; failure to provide proof within 30 days of notice results in automatic registration suspension and a $60.00 restoration fee.

Owners electing five-year registration must consent to receive electronic notifications regarding emission inspection compliance, with alerts sent 30, 20, and 10 days before any potential suspension.

No credits or refunds of registration fees are permitted upon cancellation, termination, transfer, suspension, or revocation of a registration issued under this chapter.
