Dry needling may only be performed by licensed acupuncturists, occupational therapists, or physical therapists who have completed education and training requirements established by their respective licensing boards.

Occupational therapists must complete a minimum of 50 hours of dry needling instruction or training, pass a competency assessment, and consult with a licensed physician or acupuncturist before performing the procedure.

Advertisements for dry needling services must identify the practitioner's license type and use appropriate licensure titles; deceptive or misleading representations about qualifications, treatment, or expected outcomes are prohibited.

Intentional violations may result in disciplinary action by the practitioner's licensing board, and boards may seek injunctions against violators.

The previous requirement for newly licensed acupuncturists to complete one year of supervised practice before practicing independently is removed.
