City of Metter residents would receive a $2,000.00 homestead exemption from the assessed value of their property for municipal ad valorem taxes, with property value above that amount remaining taxable.

Homeowners must file an initial application with the city's governing authority, after which the exemption automatically renews annually as long as they continue to occupy the residence as their homestead.

The exemption applies only to City of Metter municipal taxes and does not affect state, county, or school district ad valorem taxes; it is in addition to any other applicable homestead exemptions.

Voters in the City of Metter must approve the exemption in a referendum to be held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November 2026, with the city bearing election costs.

If approved by voters, the exemption takes effect January 1, 2027; if rejected or if the election is not held, the Act automatically repeals.
