State Board of Education must adopt content standards for a legal literacy and life skills course for grades 9-12 by January 1, 2027

Required curriculum topics include constitutional rights, individual legal responsibilities, interactions with law enforcement, employment rights and contracts, housing and tenant rights, and consequences of violating criminal law

Beginning in the 2027-2028 school year, all public school students must complete at least a half-credit course in legal literacy and life skills to graduate

The course may be integrated into existing coursework and counts toward social studies or elective credit requirements for graduation
