District attorney salaries will be set by the General Assembly in the General Appropriations Act at no more than 98% of a specified benchmark salary, with most county salary supplements abolished effective July 1, 2026

District attorneys in office on July 1, 2026, may opt into the new compensation system or retain their existing salary structure including county supplements; the option must be exercised by January 1, 2028, and is irrevocable once chosen

Counties may provide optional "locality pay" to district attorneys capped at 10-20% of state salary depending on circuit size (10% for circuits with 4 or fewer judges, 15% for 5-9 judges, 20% for 10+ judges)

Minimum salaries for assistant district attorneys increase substantially in FY2027 (ranging from $78,000 to $160,000 by classification level) and again in FY2028 (ranging from $85,000 to $185,000)

Local laws and ordinances tying other officials' compensation to district attorney salaries are suspended as of July 1, 2026, to prevent automatic pay increases for other positions; the suspension lifts for judges on July 1, 2027
