GA SB96

Repeals multiple state advisory bodies and councils, including the Environmental Advisory Council, Jekyll Island Citizens Resource Council, Georgia Palliative Care and Quality of Life Advisory Council, Board of Homeland Security, Employment First Georgia Council, Georgia State Games Commission, and Lottery Retailer Advisory Board, with assets and liabilities transferring to the State of Georgia on July 1, 2025.

Abolishes the Georgia Volunteer Fire Service Council and consolidates its functions under the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council, which will now oversee certification and training requirements for all firefighters including volunteers.

Expands the State Housing Trust Fund for the Homeless Commission from 9 to 11 members, with the Governor appointing 5 public members (increased from 3) and the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House each appointing 2 members, with new terms beginning August 23, 2025.

Removes references to the Governor's Office for Children and Families throughout the Georgia Code and transfers its functions related to mentoring programs to the Department of Human Services.

Transfers Employment First Policy advisory duties from the repealed Employment First Georgia Council to the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Services Board, which will continue developing training plans and making biannual recommendations on policies supporting competitive integrated employment for individuals with disabilities.
