Georgia Senate Resolution 1000 recognizes and commends Speaker Pro Tempore Jan Jones upon her retirement after more than two decades of service in the Georgia House of Representatives

Jones became the longest-serving Speaker Pro Tempore in United States history after being elected to that position in 2010, making her the first woman to hold the role and the highest-ranking woman in Georgia legislative history

She served as Georgia's first female Speaker of the House during a 2022 leadership transition and was the first and only woman to serve as a conferee on the General Assembly's budget

Jones led education policy achievements including strengthening the HOPE Scholarship with STEM grade weighting, expanding Georgia's Pre-K program, and establishing a statewide network of regional public schools for at-risk students

Officially named the "Mother of Milton" by the city's Mayor and Council, she was instrumental in creating the City of Milton and led its successful 2006 cityhood referendum
